Updated XRP Ledger seeking to boost transaction censorship resistance

Ripple has released the new version of the XRP Ledger (rippled), which aims to become more resistant to censorship "than proof-of-work mining". According to a press release, version 1.2.0 will automatically detect and flag any attempts to alter transactions once entered into the blockchain or attempts to stop a transaction once made and paid (as opposed to credit cards).

“Servers now have the ability to automatically detect transaction censorship attempts and issue warnings of increasing severity for transactions that a server believes should have been included in a closed ledger after several rounds of consensus,” Ripple writes.

The update also improves error indicators and reduces the reserves needed to use the authorisation method Multisign, meaning participants with just 5 XRP in their account can now participate.

The amendments won’t be enabled until February 27. If a participant fails to update by then, their server will be amendment blocked—they won’t be able to submit or process transactions.
