HTC unveiled its first blockchain phone

HTC, a Taiwanese consumer electronics company, unveiled its first blockchain phone Exodus 1. HTC first announced Exodus 1 in May and while the phone won't ship until December, it can already be preordered but only in cryptocurrency  - for either 0.15 bitcoin or 4.78 ether. The phone itself runs on Android but there is a chip that is running a separate operating system in parallel with Android. The separate system will function as a hardware wallet to safely store private keys.

Phil Chen, HTC's decentralized chief officer, told CNBC that integrating blockchain will help protect customers' data. Mr. Chen said: "When you start owning your own keys, then you can start owning your own digital identity, then you can start to own data." The phone will also have a “social key recovery” feature that will allow to assign a group of trustworthy friends who will be able to recover the private keys if they were lost. (Source: CNBC)
