ZCash launches second software client, hoping to boost network security

ZCash has become a multi-client network, according to a press release, following the launch of its new client dubbed "Zebra."

Zebra offers an alternative to the existing "zcashd" client, ensuring that if one client goes down, the ZCash network is not entirely compromised. Zebra, written in Rust and built by blockchain-development firm Parity Technologies, will also help “detect implementation-specific bugs” and avoid consensus-related issues.

The ZCash Foundation will now be responsible for Zebra's development and maintenance. The codebase is open source and is already available via the Foundation’s GitHub repo.

“The community wins across the board, " said Parity Technologies CTO, Fredrik Harryson. "Zcash can now boast a more diversified community that can effectively tailor experiences for Layer 2 developers as well as end-users."

This is also Parity's fourth major public network implementation, including Ethereum.
