Gemini makes Chief Security Officer hire

Gemini, the New York-based cryptocurrency exchange, has announced the hiring of David Damato as its Chief Security Officer. Damato has two decades of cybersecurity experience and was formerly Chief Security Officer at Tanium, a privately-held cybersecurity firm valued at $6.5 billion. 

"Security is the bedrock of our culture and one of Gemini’s four pillars along with Product, Licensing, and Compliance," said Tyler Winklevoss, co-founder, and CEO of Gemini. "We are excited for Dave to continue our Security Team’s tradition of building and pioneering world-class security solutions to secure the future of money," he added.

According to research from The Block, the total sum of stolen cryptocurrencies from exchanges has surpassed $1.35 billion. The most recent of these thefts was Binance's security breach, which resulted in 7,000 BTC ($40.6 million) stolen.
