ConsenSys acquires Ethereum infrastructure service provider Infura

ConsenSys, the Ethereum development studio, has acquired Ethereum infrastructure service provider Infura.

Infura's flagship product is an API enabling developers and applications to connect to remote Ethereum nodes. The startup was founded in 2016 and was a ConsenSys "spoke" working within ConsenSys' startup incubator. According to its website, Infura is used by thousands of developers and applications including 0x, MetaMask, and CryptoKitties. The company also claims to process over 13 billion code requests per day.

According to Infura's blog post, while the firm has received "significant interest from tier 1 venture capital firms," it decided to work with ConsenSys because the firm believes the development studio "is the right place for us to be situated in order to realize our vision and continue to grow our offering."
