Ethereum reaches 50 million unique addresses, but active addresses have dropped nearly 70% from its peak

On Saturday, the number of unique Ethereum addresses crossed 50 million, according to data from Etherscan.io. Ethereum saw its highest increase in unique addresses on January 4, 2018, with 352,888 new addresses added to its network. While the number of unique Ethereum addresses is increasing, the number of active addresses is actually decreasing. According to Coinmetrics, an active address is defined as "the number of unique sending and receiving addresses participating in transactions on the given day." The number of active Ethereum addresses have dropped ~68% from its peak of 719,093 on January 16, 2018, to 232,085 on December 15, 2018. Active Ethereum addresses now make up 0.46% of unique addresses.
