Payments unicorn TransferWise to hire 750 people in six months

British payments firm TransferWise is planning a hiring spree in the new year through the creation of 750 new jobs globally, including 175 in its London headquarters.

The company, which specializes in international remittance at cut prices, says it has continued to expand in 2020 despite the pandemic. Once filled, the newly created roles will bring the firm’s headcount to a little under 3,000 spread across 14 offices globally.

“We need a lot of help beyond our current team of 2,200 people to achieve our mission of money without borders,” said Kristo Käärmann, co-founder and chief executive of TransferWise.

In response to the pandemic, TransferWise has tweaked its remote working policy such that staff can work abroad for up to three months each year – up from one month previously. Käärmann said the policy has been designed “with an international team at heart”.

Käärmann and fellow Estonian Taavet Hinrikus founded TransferWise in 2010. It has gone on to become of Europe’s most valuable fintech startups with a price tag of $5bn at the time of its most secondary fundraising in June 2020.
