GCSA and AETDEW Jointly Establish AI Cybersecurity Research Center

Strategic partnership brings together engineering, technology, and AI cybersecurity expertise to advance international research, talent development, and digital transformation across developing countries and emerging economies.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, August 5, 2026 — The Global Cybersecurity Alliance (GCSA) and the Academy of Engineering and Technology of the Developing World (AETDEW) signed a cooperation agreement in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, formally establishing a strategic partnership and jointly launching the AI Cybersecurity Research Center.

The Research Center will combine AETDEW’s leadership in engineering and technology with GCSA’s expertise in AI cybersecurity to establish an international platform for research collaboration and capacity building. The two organizations will advance AI cybersecurity research, professional talent development, technical exchange, the translation of research outcomes into practical applications, and international cooperation, while fostering collaboration among governments, industry, academia, research institutions, and international organizations.

H.E. Kabiné Komara, former Prime Minister of Guinea and Senior Adviser on International Finance and Security Governance, and Dr. Moneef R. Zou’bi, Fellow of the New York Academy of Sciences and the World Academy of Art and Science, delivered remarks on behalf of GCSA.

Academician Dato’ Ir. Dr. Lee Yee Cheong, Founding President of AETDEW and Senior Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, and Ir. Ts. Choo Kok Beng FASc, President of AETDEW and Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, attended the signing ceremony.

H.E. Kabiné Komara said:

“Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping the global digital landscape while creating new challenges for cybersecurity. We look forward to seeing the Research Center serve as a bridge for global collaboration, bringing together expertise from around the world to strengthen cybersecurity capabilities and build a trusted and resilient digital future.”

Dr. Moneef R. Zou’bi said:

“Artificial intelligence is not only transforming how we defend cyberspace, but also reshaping the nature of cyber threats, the foundations of digital trust, and the security of critical infrastructure. AETDEW and GCSA will work together to advance cutting-edge research, strengthen talent development, and accelerate the translation of research outcomes into practical applications.”

The two organizations will place particular emphasis on the practical needs of developing countries and emerging economies as they advance their digital transformation. The Research Center will promote the coordinated development of cybersecurity capabilities and digital infrastructure through knowledge sharing, applied research, and practical cooperation, supporting secure, trusted, and sustainable digital transformation.

The partnership marks the beginning of long-term collaboration between GCSA and AETDEW. Through the AI Cybersecurity Research Center, the two organizations will promote deeper integration between engineering and technology expertise and cybersecurity capabilities, while jointly addressing the evolving cybersecurity challenges of the artificial intelligence era.
