U.S. Republican leader thinks blockchain could make government work better

US House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy is advising the government to research how blockchain can improve the efficiency and transparency of governmental work. McCarthy spoke Tuesday about the issue to the Select Committee for Modernization of Congress.

“Blockchain is changing and revolutionizing the security of the financial industry. Why would we wait around …to make this place more effective, more efficient, and most importantly, more accountable?” he said.

The representative for California said the technology could augment the legislative processes as well. A bill, dubbed the "Blockchain Promotional Act 2018," was introduced to the House last October, aiming to create a working group to look into blockchain's potential impact. However, no vote has yet passed.
