Canto to restart network after 'consensus issue' causes outage
Quick Take
- Cosmos-based Layer-1 blockchain Canto has experienced an outage lasting over twenty-eight hours following a problematic software upgrade.
- An upgrade to address the issue will be carried out shortly, at 12:00 UTC on Monday, Canto said.
Cosmos-based Layer-1 blockchain Canto experienced an outage following its "Callisto" upgrade on Saturday which took the mainnet down at about 18:43 UTC, according to block explorers.
The blockchain has been unable to process new transactions since the outage. On Sunday afternoon, Canto's X account acknowledged the outage, blaming the downtime on "an issue with consensus." Canto said an upgrade designed to address the issue would be carried out on Monday at 12:00 UTC and reassured users that funds are safe.
Though Canto announced its intent to migrate to Ethereum last year, becoming a Layer-2 network, the blockchain later reversed course, deciding to remain an L1.
Canto experienced a surge in trading activity in January 2023, but has since fallen to become the 78th largest blockchain by total value locked (TVL), according to DefiLlama data.
