OKX brings Solana ‘Blinks’ to Ethereum chains

Quick Take

  • Crypto exchange OKX’s wallet is bringing Solana — blockchain links, a.k.a. “Blinks” to EVM chains, which make it possible to embed URLs on webpages using a URL.

Crypto exchange OKX’s wallet is bringing a technology developed on Solana — blockchain links, or “Blinks” — to all Ethereum-compatible chains. The company says it is the first with a multi-chain wallet to be able to do so.

Blinks, a relatively recent innovation introduced by the Solana Foundation in partnership with Solana development firm Dialect, create shareable URLs that can execute on-chain transactions. For example, users can interact with a smart contract directly on social platform X to buy an NFT without leaving the site.

OKX’s new product will have specific OKX Wallet URLs that can be posted and interacted with online. The company worked with Dialect to bring Blinks into its wallet technology stack and says that these transactions have “zero fees.”

“With the addition of multi-chain Blinks, users can now perform even more onchain actions directly embedded in their usual sites and platforms,” OKX Chief Innovation Officer Jason Lau said in a press release. “We're also working with partners across both the Solana and EVM ecosystems to ensure their applications are supported.”

Farcaster, the Ethereum-based decentralized social media platform, pioneered a similar technology to Blinks in January. Called “Frames,” these allow users to embed self-executing blockchain code directly into social media posts.

OKX, founded in 2017, is one of the world’s largest and most active crypto exchanges. Its wallet is integrated with around 100 blockchains, including, most recently, the TON blockchain.
