Talos brings Robinhood, Sony onto cap table as funding hits $150 million
Quick Take
- Talos said part of the funding was settled using stablecoins, pointing to growing institutional comfort with blockchain-based payment rails in large transactions.
- The company is expanding beyond crypto-native markets, with plans to support traditional asset classes as they move onto digital infrastructure.
Talos has raised an additional $45 million in new funding, bringing its total raise to $150 million and valuing the institutional crypto infrastructure firm at about $1.5 billion post-money, according to a Thursday release.
The extension brings several new strategic investors onto Talos’s cap table, including Robinhood Markets, Sony Innovation Fund, IMC, QCP, and Karatage. Existing backers a16z crypto, BNY, and Fidelity Investments also participated, the company said.
Talos provides trading, portfolio management, and data infrastructure used by banks, brokers, and asset managers to trade and manage digital assets.
The company said it extended the round to accommodate demand from strategic partners, many of which already use its platform.
Robinhood's onchain push
Robinhood’s investment comes as the brokerage pushes further into blockchain-based market infrastructure, including tokenized assets and onchain settlement.
CEO Vlad Tenev has argued that moving traditional assets onto blockchain rails could reduce settlement risk and support round-the-clock markets.
Johann Kerbrat, senior vice president and general manager of crypto at Robinhood, spoke on the Talos investment, saying the platform helps deepen liquidity and deliver advanced trading capabilities for Robinhood’s crypto business.
Talos said a portion of the investment was settled using stablecoins, reflecting the growing use of blockchain-based payment rails in institutional transactions. Proceeds from the funding will be used to expand product development across trading, risk management, treasury, and settlement tools, and to support traditional asset classes as they migrate onto digital infrastructure.
Growth and acquisition spree
The fundraise follows a period of rapid growth for Talos.
The company said it has roughly doubled revenue and its client base in each of the past two years.
Recent milestones include launching a request-for-quote platform integrated with BlackRock’s traders on the Aladdin system and acquiring Coin Metrics, Cloudwall, Skolem, and D3X Systems to expand its data, risk, and portfolio engineering capabilities.
