Turning tokenized U.S. equities into institutional-grade collateral: Capital efficiency, financing, and cross-asset risk control

rTokens are RWA assets issued by Reality, a regulated real-world-asset (RWA) issuance platform backed by Bitget. RWA tokens are blockchain-based digital tokens representing off-chain assets. Use case 1 | Cross-asset collateral: Build U.S. equity exposure without touching your core crypto book

Institutional pain point: A fund that is primarily crypto-focused is bullish on NVIDIA and Tesla and wants to build U.S. equity exposure, but its capital is entirely in BTC and ETH.

rToken solution: Pledge BTC/ETH to borrow USDT and use it to buy tokenized U.S. equities such as rNVDA/rTSLA directly within the same account; leveraged spot positions can be scaled up to roughly 5x exposure if needed. The core crypto book stays untouched and requires no transfers—crypto and equities are calculated on equal footing within the same margin pool. Leveraged spot positions can also be scaled up to roughly 5x. The core crypto book doesn't move at all, yet U.S. equities can still be purchased—one pool of capital serving two purposes. Crypto and U.S. equities sit in the same account, supporting each other.

Why institutions should care: It amounts to using crypto holdings as collateral to achieve the effect of buying U.S. stocks, without having to touch the core crypto book at all. This path simply doesn't exist under the old structure of pure crypto exchange + traditional broker, each handling its own silo.

Risk: Borrowing incurs floating interest, and principal plus interest must be repaid in full regardless of losses. Leverage amplifies both gains and losses. Under cross-asset pooled margin, adverse stock moves may accelerate the liquidation of crypto collateral. Users should independently assess the tax implications of selling assets versus using them as collateral.

 

Use case 2 | Leveraged carry on rSTRC preferred shares

Institutional pain point: Fixed income teams need stable, predictable returns, but high-quality, high-yield assets often require significant capital commitments and are difficult to leverage to amplify returns.

rToken solution: rSTRC is the tokenized form of Strategy's (MSTR) STRC preferred shares. The liquidation par value is $100. With the current market price around $88, the token trades at an absolute discount of roughly 12% and pays annual dividend of $12 per token. Based on the current entry cost, the static dividend yield works out to about 13.6%*.

Within the UTA, pledge rSTRC as collateral to borrow USDT and loop the borrowed funds into additional positions. Key structural point: Dividends are calculated on the full notional position, while financing interest is charged only on the borrowed portion—this asymmetry, rather than simply leveraging the interest spread, is what drives the return amplification. Take the 3x example: A $30,000 position earns the full dividend, but you only pay interest on the $20,000 you borrowed. You earn dividends on the larger notional position while paying interest only on the borrowed amount—that's how the net APR reaches 36.8%.

Illustrative example based on $10,000 in principal and a 2% USDT borrowing rate:

The table above reflects pure dividend returns and includes no assumptions about price movement. 3x is the default recommendation; 5x is suitable only for quantitative institutions with active risk management capabilities.

Why institutions should care: The bulk of the return comes from annual dividend, rather than relying on price recovery. The 25% discount provides a safety cushion, not a return expectation.

Dividends are earned on the full position while interest is paid only on the borrowed amount—that asymmetry is what leverage amplifies.

Risk:

  • Price downside and liquidation: If rSTRC falls below $60, a 5x position will face liquidation outright. The default recommendation is 3x, with 20%–30% of the position held back in stablecoins as reserve margin.
  • Floating financing rate: USDT borrowing is charged at a floating rate. If market-wide demand pushes it above 8%, the net interest spread will be significantly eroded, and positions should be actively trimmed to pay down the debt.
  • Restricted redemption window: rSTRC redemptions are only available during designated redemption windows, and short-term on-chain liquidity is relatively limited. This strategy is suitable only for medium- to long-term idle capital, and maturity mismatches should be strictly avoided.
  • Dividend disruption: If the dividend is canceled or delayed, the entire return model no longer holds.
  • Underlying credit: The solvency of Strategy should be assessed independently and should not be inferred from the calculations in this material.

 

⚠️ Directional caveat: The return from this strategy comes primarily from dividends, not price recovery. "A narrowing of the discount toward $90–$100" is a directional call and should not be counted as a guaranteed return. The main risk at the current $75 price isn't credit default, but a temporary liquidity squeeze that widens the discount further—meaning an unrealized paper loss could show up before the return is realized.

Use case 3 | Use equity positions as margin to free up firepower for crypto strategies

Institutional pain point: Portfolios that are heavily weighted in equities want to run crypto strategies but are unwilling to sell their stock holdings; the collateral is locked on the equity side and cannot be mobilized for crypto.

rToken solution: Use rNVDA/rTSLA and similar tokens directly as margin to open BTC/ETH crypto futures positions within the same account, while the equity position remains untouched. Why institutions should care: Collateral mobilization: turn stock exposure that would otherwise sit idle into usable margin, significantly improving overall capital efficiency. This is especially suited for multi-asset desks with large stock holdings and flexible crypto strategies.

Risk: Using equities as margin to open crypto futures stacks volatility from both sides; sufficient margin buffer must be maintained. Because the pool is shared, a dislocation on either side can trigger liquidation on the other, so cross-asset stress testing is required.

 

Use case 4 | Industry-lowest loan cost as a financing engine + cross-market deployment

Institutional pain point: Financing costs directly determine the return from carry spreads. Loan funds are often confined to the original market, and cross-market allocation requires repeated transfers, increasing friction and slippage.

rToken solution: Borrow USDT against BTC/ETH collateral at only around 2.50%, and USDC at around 3.30%, while competitors are generally above 3.7%. Loan funds carry no usage restrictions: Keep adding to crypto positions, buy tokenized U.S. equities, or transfer into a CFD account to trade gold/oil. One low-cost loan, deployed uniformly across markets.

Use case 5 | UTA loan vs. Crypto Loans: Choose efficiency or isolation by strategy

Institutional pain point: Running multiple strategies at once requires both capital efficiency and risk isolation, and a single margin model cannot deliver both—a shared pool improves efficiency but lets one strategy's blow-up contaminate the whole account, while isolation reduces risk at the cost of cross-netting benefits.

rToken solution: Two loan modes coexist.

  • UTA loan: Shares a margin pool with the rest of the account's positions, with cross-netting of PnL, for maximum capital efficiency.
  • Crypto Loans: Risk is calculated independently and does not affect other positions within the unified trading account, offering more flexible loan terms.

Institutions can choose by strategy: Run the core portfolio through the UTA pool to maximize efficiency, and route high-risk or separately-mandated strategies through Crypto Loans for isolation. Use UTA loans to net all exposures within a unified pool (best capital efficiency), or use Crypto Loans to have a given strategy's risk calculated independently, without contaminating the rest of the UTA account (best risk isolation).

Why institutions should care: This is a genuine structural option that turns efficiency vs. isolation from a forced either/or choice into something configurable by position—particularly important for multi-strategy funds and institutions that need risk segmentation.

Strongest message: "The same collateral can either be pooled to maximize efficiency, or isolated to protect the core portfolio—adjustable strategy by strategy, with no need to choose just one."

Risk: The execution path for each position must be defined in advance to avoid misjudging risk ownership. The differences between the two modes in interest rates, borrowable assets, and liquidation rules must be confirmed item by item.
