<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The FBI has emailed potential victims of the now-defunct crypto exchange QuadrigaCX to inform them that its investigation is still ongoing, CoinDesk reports. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The U.S. government has been working with Canadian law enforcement on the case ever since its 30-year-old QuadrigaCX CEO, Gerald Cotton, passed away in Dec. 2018, leaving behind a multimillion-dollar shortfall, Fortune previously </span><a href="https://fortune.com/2019/03/04/quadriga-fbi-bitcoin/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">reported</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In June 2019, Ernst &amp; Young, the professional services firm acting as QuadrigaCX’s bankruptcy trustee, claimed in a </span><a href="https://documentcentre.eycan.com/eycm_library/Quadriga%20Fintech%20Solutions%20Corp/English/CCAA/1.%20Monitor's%20Reports/6.%20Fifth%20Report%20of%20the%20Monitor/Fifth%20Report%20of%20the%20Monitor%20dated%20June%2019,%202019.PDF"><span style="font-weight: 400;">report</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> that Cotton had allegedly stolen over 20,000 bitcoins from his customers. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In the latest </span><a href="https://i.imgur.com/7YfMPEj.png"><span style="font-weight: 400;">email update</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, obtained by </span><a href="https://www.coindesk.com/the-fbi-is-now-reaching-out-to-quadrigacx-victims"><span style="font-weight: 400;">CoinDesk</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, FBI victim specialist Valerie Gauthier told the exchange’s former customers that the bureau was not revealing details of the investigation at this time.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“A criminal investigation can be a lengthy undertaking, and, for several reasons, we cannot tell you about its progress at its time,” she said.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Victims can access their case status through the U.S. Department of Justice’s new </span><a href="https://www.notify.usdoj.gov/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Victim Notification System</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> while waiting for the investigation to yield further results. </span></p>
