It was conceived through collaboration among organizations like Animoca Brands, TinyTap, and GEMS Education to build an alternative educational ecosystem where creators can tokenize content as Publisher NFTs, learners can earn verifiable credentials, and stakeholders share governance via the EDU token.

One of Open Campus’s core innovations is the EDU Chain, a Layer-3 blockchain built on Arbitrum Orbit, designed to support educational applications (EduFi), decentralized credentialing, content monetization, and learner identity. Through the EDU Chain and related tools, learners can gain ownership over their academic credentials—things like certificates or achievements—that are stored on-chain and provable in a decentralized, tamper-resistant fashion.
