Coinbase has brought in Google veteran Surojit Chatterjee to serve as the crypto exchange startup's chief product officer.

Chatterjee previously served as Google's vice president of product management, heading up Google Shopping. Before that, he was Indian e-commerce platform Flipkart's head of product.

Chatterjee's installation is part of Coinbase's continued look to scale its business and impact on the global financial system, according to a statement from Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong.

Coinbase's previous chief product officer, Jeremy Henrickson, left the position in December 2018.

Chatterjee told CoinDesk that he expects Coinbase's impact on financial services to be akin to Google's effect on the internet. In a statement, Armstrong said Chatterjee's role will focus on the accessibility of Coinbase products. The company rolled out an Android version of Coinbase Pro earlier this month.
