The venture capital arm of Binance and FunPlus, the mobile gaming giant, co-led a $6.6 million investment in web3 gaming startup Fusionist.

Fusionist is a blockchain-gaming outfit with three titles built around collectible NFTs — a 29th century sci-fi trilogy in which commanders scour the universe in search of new settlements, with Earth largely uninhabitable.

Its games will be launched initially on BNB Chain, the Binance-affiliated blockchain, before expanding to other networks.

“We are thrilled to have Binance Labs on board as a strategic investor and partner. With the support of one of the industry leaders, we can further raise the bar for what Fusionist is able to accomplish in the future,” said Ike T, Fusionist’s CEO.

Fusionist today boasts a community of some 800,000 members, courtesy of three NFT drops and beta testing version of the game live on Steam. Its founding team hails from the likes of Tencent Games, Electronic Arts and Moonton Games.

The money will be used to continue developing the games and to build out Fusionist’s Endurance Mainnet ecosystem, which it launched in January, as well as for hiring.

FunPlus is a free-to-play gaming company that sold off one of its gaming units to Zhongji Holding for $960 million in 2014.
