Robinhood CEO’s X account hacked to promote Vladhood memecoin flagged as 'scam'

Memecoin hustlers appear to have hacked Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev’s X account on Thursday to spread the VLAD memecoin. 

The post, sent at about ~17:24 UTC, claims Robinhood is launching "Vladhood ($VLAD)" as the "official Robinhood chain mascot," that it will be listed in the Robinhood app, and includes a contract address beginning 0x92d.

Notably, a similar message was not posted to either official X account for Robinhood or Robinhood Crypto. 

The blockchain explorer for Robinhood Chain notes that the token is a "potential scam." There have been about 1,868 transactions since it was deployed by a user with the contract name PonsLaunchFactory.

Robinhood Chain, launched on July 1, has become a popular venue for memecoin trading, in particular for the Cashcat memecoin. The network is processing roughly 6 million transactions a day, according to recent data, and has seen cumulative DEX volume of about $9 billion, primarily driven by higher-risk memecoins, per Entropy Advisors.

Tenev previously posted that "while we’re building Robinhood Chain to be the best chain for RWA … it works great for memes too."

Robinhood Chain is an Ethereum Layer 2 built on the Arbitrum Orbit stack.

Robinhood's communications X account later confirmed that Tenev's account had been compromised, adding: "We’re working with X to restore access and the post has been removed."
