FuelVM: An Alternative to the Ethereum Virtual Machine

While there is a lot of discussion about how to scale Ethereum at Layer 1 (L1; e.g., sharding) and Layer 2 (L2; e.g., rollups), less has been discussed about the possibility of increasing scalability by replacing the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).

Here, we introduce FuelVM, one of the ambitious projects aimed at building a better EVM. First, we explain important concepts about the EVM; then, we dive into key differences between the FuelVM and the EVM that could potentially make the former more suitable to meet increasing global demand.
