In 2023, the debate over integrated vs. modular blockchain systems took center stage with the noticeable outperformance of two protocols in the market that embody these different design approaches: Solana and Celestia. As of this writing, the price of SOL, the native token of the monolithic chain, Solana, is up 129% since the start of November. Over the same period, the price of TIA, the native token of the data availability chain, Celestia, is up 398%, reflecting the crypto market’s keen focus on the integrated vs. modular narrative.
Alongside the emergence of this narrative, the Cosmos ecosystem has seen a corresponding rise in activity, particularly from demand for TIA, whose underlying network is built on the Cosmos SDK and connected to the broader Cosmos ecosystem via the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol. One of the primary beneficiaries of the surging interest in Celestia has been Osmosis, which currently features the highest on-chain liquidity for TIA among DEXs.
