The promise of parallel transaction execution has captured the attention of the crypto industry in recent months. Following the dramatic comeback of the Solana ecosystem and its SOL token in 2023, protocols with a focus on parallelization have been some of the best performing among Layer 1 (L1) blockchains since the start of November 1, 2023, as of this writing. The top-performing L1 smart contract platform over this period is Neon, which aims to provide access to Solana’s parallelized execution capabilities through the Ethereum virtual machine (EVM).

Notably, the second-best performing token behind NEON is SEI, which, as of this writing, is up ~423% since the start of November 2023. SEI is the native token for the Sei blockchain, which has positioned itself as a competitor to highly performant blockchains like Solana by focusing on parallelization and high-throughput trading as part of its design and core value proposition. In this report, we will dig deeper into the Sei network and the recent growth of its burgeoning DeFi ecosystem.
