Mapping out Bitlayer's ecosystem

Founded in October 2023 by Charlie Yechuan Hu and Kevin He, Bitlayer is a developing Bitcoin Layer 2 solution built on the Bitcoin Virtual Machine (BitVM) system. BitVM enhances Bitcoin’s functionality by enabling complex computations and smart contracts using its existing Script language, all while preserving the network’s original design. This approach allows off-chain processing with on-chain verification, significantly expanding Bitcoin’s capabilities to support advanced decentralized applications (dApps) without compromising security.

The Bitcoin ecosystem is experiencing a dramatic increase in deal activity, with the number of transactions at all-time highs already this year, and deal activity within Bitcoin’s ecosystem is expected to finish the year with a year-over-year surge of approximately 145%. This inflow of investment reflects a growing confidence among investors in Bitcoin’s potential to evolve beyond a mere store of value, with an increasing focus on its utility and emerging use cases.
