A Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) is a secure area within a device's main processor that operates independently of the main operating system and applications. Its purpose is to create an isolated, trusted environment for processing sensitive data securely and privately. 

In simpler terms, a TEE functions like a secure room within a device where only verified operations can take place, shielding sensitive data from unauthorized access. Just as a safe room protects valuables from potential threats, a TEE isolates critical operations from the rest of the system, ensuring security even if other areas are compromised.
