Searching for Alpha: Streamr Network

Data publishing and subscription services are an emerging trend in the Internet era. These services connecting data-producing sensors and data consumers are traditionally brokered by centralized operators and infrastructure. Such centralization often leads to bandwidth limitation and (linearly) increasing operational cost in the case of high-demand, high-supply data streams.

Streamr Network is a decentralized peer-to-peer (P2P) publish-subscribe network that aims at solving the aforementioned scaling issue. Its structure shares similarities with many existing gossip-based P2P networks, such as BitTorrent, a popular P2P file-sharing protocol used for the permissionless dissemination of digital files.
