State of Scaling Issue 8: State of ZK-Rollups

In this issue of State of Scaling (SoS), we will look at the recent developments of notable zk-rollups (ZKRs), as well as the nascent ZKRs which are starting to gain some attention. ZKRs have often been touted as the end-all for scaling solutions, but there are significant challenges that ZKRs have to overcome as well, such as a different programming paradigm and computational overhead of generating and verifying validity proofs on-chain. As such, there is still a need to observe the growth of ZKRs closely, given that they are far from becoming the dominant scaling solution for Ethereum.

Matter Labs recently reminded the public that their mainnet would officially launch on October 28, 2022, which is as scheduled since July 2022, when they first announced their 100-day mainnet launch countdown.
