Varieties of Shared Security in the Cosmos Ecosystem

Proof-of-stake (PoS) has become the major consensus mechanism for decentralized blockchains to achieve distributed consensus. Staking in a PoS network provides an economic guarantee of network security.

However, the high capital requirement of the PoS mechanism hinders new blockchains from assembling a decentralized validator set from scratch. With an increasing number of new blockchains requiring their own separate trust network, they compete against one another in attracting capital, resulting in a fragmentation of economic security.
