The Block Research has previously launched a series of research pieces on DeFi exploits, the last part of which detailed the May exploits on BSC. Many of the May attacks were copycat attacks due to the proliferation of forks of popular protocols with minimal changes on BSC. Due to the continuation of the trend towards using other EVM compatible chains, it is not surprising that users of Polygon and Avalanche also lost funds due to exploits.

It is important that, along with the popularity of other smart contract platforms, interest in cross-chain products has grown. Given the high amounts of funds in these protocols, it was not surprising that they would also attract the attention of attackers. The attack on the Poly Network could have been the largest attack by the amount of stolen funds if the exploiter had not returned the stolen funds.
