Rapid Insights: Uniswap v4

For several years, Uniswap has managed to consistently lead decentralized exchange (DEX) protocols in key metrics like volume and total value locked (TVL). In hindsight, Uniswap v2’s rise could be attributed to features like its simplicity (e.g. largely ETH pairs, swap UI, etc.) and gas efficiency. Uniswap v3 introduced concentrated pools, which has helped Uniswap continue to maintain over 50% market share (Figure 1, below) and remain competitive in specific segments such as stablecoin swaps. 

This week, Uniswap released details for its latest iteration of the protocol, Uniswap v4. Though not as significant as prior upgrades, Uniswap v4 incorporates several key features aimed at allowing Uniswap to remain competitive in the space while maintaining the immutability of the core protocol logic.
