Harpie claims to be an on-chain firewall capable of preventing on-chain theft. It is an Ethereum-based protocol that detects malicious transactions and circumvents them by frontrunning with another transaction that transfers protected funds to a non-custodial vault. Once the protected funds are transferred to the vault, users can withdraw them using the specified withdrawal address. Harpie charges 0.01 ETH per recovered asset, which is deducted during the transfer. Frontrunning occurs when a transactor submits transaction A with a higher gas price than an already pending transaction B, granting transaction A processing priority over transaction B.

Users must first set up on Harpie which decentralized applications (dapps) to be whitelisted in their trusted networks, which specific token they wish to protect, and lastly, a withdrawal address to recover the stolen funds. Token transfers to whitelisted addresses will not be interrupted by Harpie, whereas token transfers to addresses not on the whitelist will be subject to frontrunning protection. Harpie already curated a list of 31 DeFi dapps, including 1inch, Aave, Yearn Finance, and others. Users can also choose to add more contracts and addresses to their whitelist.
