Founded in 2017, Alameda Research was one of the biggest crypto-focused market-making and trading firms that claimed to be managing over $1 billion worth of digital assets and derivatives. It was founded by Sam Bankman-Fried, a now infamous crypto-entrepreneur, who in 2019 founded FTX, an international cryptocurrency exchange and trading platform that heavily competed with Coinbase and Binance for market share. The trading platform also operated a venture arm, FTX Ventures, with some of its first venture capital investments publicly announced in Q3 2020.

In light of the recent events, The Block decided to map out Alameda Research and FTX Ventures' historical investments. Since Alameda Research got absorbed by FTX Ventures in August 2022, the portfolios of both companies are combined in this analysis. The "merge" between one of the largest exchange venture arms and Alameda Research is also visible in the timeline of investments. Notably, the amount of venture capital deals has significantly decreased in 2022, which is in line with the rest of the crypto venture capital market. Some of the latest investments include Aptos wallet Martian Wallet, a web3 social graph Lens Protocol, and a DeFi wallet ForDeFi.
