Bain Capital is one of the biggest private investment firms that was founded in 1984 by Mitt Romney, Coleman Andrews III, and Eric Kriss. Originated in Boston, the firm currently maintains around $160 billion in AUM. Its venture capital division, Bain Capital Ventures (BCV) was created in 2001, currently holding around $10 billion in AUM. Among its investment domains of commerce, software infrastructure, and applications, fintech, and specifically, crypto/Web3 is one of the spheres BCV is deploying a lot of its capital.

Most of BCV’s crypto-oriented investments landed in Crypto Financial Services, DeFi, and Infrastructure categories among which the biggest ones were BlockFi (raising $350m, $3b Val.), Crusoe Energy Systems (raising $350m., $1.75b Val.), and Basis (raising $125m and returning it the following year because of the company shut down).
