Founded by Fred Wilson and Brad Burnham in 2003, Union Square Ventures is one of the largest and most established venture firms in New York. The venture fund has proven itself as one of the best deal-makers and tech investors in the industry, making multiple investments in startups that ended up becoming tech giants, including Coinbase, Twitter, Twilio, and Zynga.

The fund has been interested in the crypto sector as far back as 2013 when it became an early investor in the now publicly traded US exchange Coinbase. Fast forward to the beginning of this year; Union Square Ventures noted that it would allocate 30% of its new $250 million fund toward crypto-related investments. Historically, the firm has had other broad exposure to the sector as a limited partner for other crypto funds, such as Multicoin Capital, which has had notable success this year with its early investments in Solana and its ecosystem.
