After the original Silk Road popularized the use of bitcoin for payments for goods and services sold through the dark web, cryptocurrencies have become the dominant form of payment for such marketplaces.

According to Chainalysis, more than $790M worth of cryptocurrencies were used in darknet market transactions. In this piece, we provide an update of our 2019 analysis on darknet marketplaces and the cryptocurrencies they support.
