Cryptocurrency options growth in 2020

Echoing a column by Larry Cermak from May 2020, we are revisiting the development of both Bitcoin as well as Ethereum options for 2020 — as the year draws to a close.

So far, 2020 has been a very strong year in terms of both spot as well as derivatives metrics growth rates. In November, metrics across the board saw either new yearly highs, or straight out new all-time highs. And while futures are still leading options in terms of aggregated open interest and aggregated trade volumes, options outperformed the already impressive growth rates of futures by about 5.4 times in 2020 — for both Bitcoin and Ethereum.
