Motivated by the premise that the accelerating digitization of all aspects of life would give rise to a fully integrated world, many investors have been coaxed into believing wholeheartedly that the promised land of the metaverse was already on the verge of taking shape.

However, the hype around virtual worlds eventually got ahead of their technological maturity, causing the sector to lapse into a state of passivity for a while. This reality started to settle in over the second half of last year as blind spots of this vision were brought to light.
