In Q3 2024, the blockchain sector attracted nearly $3.4 billion in total investment across 649 venture deals. While the total investment closely mirrored the $3.5 billion raised in Q2, the blockchain sector's three-quarter streak of increasing investment was broken with this slight dip. Even more notable was the sharp decline in deal activity, which dropped by approximately 22% from 834 deals in Q2 to 649 in Q3. This significant reduction in deals highlights a slowdown in venture capital enthusiasm, even as the dollar amount of investment remained stable.

One of the key factors driving this decline in deal volume was the reduced activity at the Seed and Early Stage levels, where most venture capital investments traditionally occur. Seed deals dropped by 35% quarter-over-quarter (Q/Q), while Early Stage deals declined by 24% Q/Q. Strategic deals, typically falling within the Early Stage funding level, also saw a 32% Q/Q drop in activity. These declines highlight the market's growing caution as the sector grapples with broader economic conditions and investor hesitancy around risk.
