For the fourth consecutive quarter, the blockchain/crypto sector saw historic levels of capital allocation by private investors. From Q3 to Q4, total private funding went from approximately $8.0 billion to roughly $10.3 billion, or an increase of 29%. The number of deals also grew by about 25%, from 435 in Q3 to 544 in Q4.

Increased investor interest in the sector has brought more demand for early-stage companies and projects with ambitious plans, primarily in NFTs/Gaming, DeFi, and to a lesser extent, Web3 projects. Within the crypto/blockchain sector, it is typical for Seed & Pre-Series A deals to account for a significant majority. In Q4, however, this majority skyrocketed, with these deal types representing 66% of all deals compared to half of all deals in Q3.
