Q4'22 Blockchain Venture Funding and M&A Recap

Last quarter, roughly $3.5 billion in venture capital was allocated across 387 blockchain-related funding deals. However, funding in dollar terms was down nearly 44% Q/Q, from approximately $6.2 billion in Q3'22 to just shy of $3.5 billion. Investment in dollar amount had declined for four consecutive quarters, making it the lowest quarter in funding since Q4'20, the quarter before capital allocation into the sector began to take off.

December was notable because its funding was down approximately 33% MoM to roughly $884 million. Before last month, blockchain companies, in aggregate, had received at least $1 billion or more each month for 21 consecutive months, dating back to February 2021.
