Retail is coming, but not yet fully here

Following several months of recording-breaking numbers, the global cryptocurrency market capitalization surpassed the $1 trillion mark for the first time on January 6. This has been a highly anticipated milestone and is in-line with positive industry expectations, as well as with the trend of several other crypto metrics that surpassed the $1 trillion mark in 2020.

While the recent rally has been mainly driven by a more matured market infrastructure and institutional capital, retail investors are starting to enter the market at an increased pace as showcased by Larry Cermak’s column with Google search, Twitter follower, Wikipedia views, and exchange web traffic data from January 11.
