As the most prominent U.S. cryptocurrency exchange, Coinbase is often viewed as the poster child of the burgeoning cryptocurrency industry. 

Founded in 2012 by Brian Armstrong and Fred Ehrsam as a way to simplify the way consumers store, buy, and spend bitcoin, Coinbase has become the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the U.S. and one of the most valuable, with a reported implied valuation of around $100 billion. In 2020, its exchange business generated $188 billion in traded volume. As of the time of this report, Coinbase has 43 million verified users using its services.
