Ethereum’s expected transition to a Proof-of-Stake consensus model will arguably be the largest historical event for the alternative consensus model to Proof-of-Work. In order to get a better idea of the magnitude of such a move, in 2019, Proof-of-Stake networks accounted for only 8% of the crypto market cap. Ethereum’s market cap alone is larger than the aggregate of Proof-of-Networks, currently accounting for approximately 10% of the crypto market cap.

Amongst community members, there is a sense of excitement and anticipation for a transition that feels like its been a long time coming. The excitement is rightfully warranted, however, transitioning to Proof-of-Stake will introduce new dynamics in regards to potential centralization issues that developers will need to be attentive to.
