Animoca Brands is one of the biggest names in the gaming and blockchain sector. Animoca Brands’ mission is “to deliver digital property rights to the world's gamers and Internet users, thereby creating a new asset class, play-to-earn economies, and a more equitable digital framework contributing to the building of the open metaverse.” Animoca Brands’ subsidiaries include The Sandbox, Blowfish Studios, Quidd, GAMEE, nWay, Pixowl, Forj, Lympo, Grease Monkey Games, Eden Games, Darewise, Notre Game and TinyTap. The company leverages the expertise of its subsidiaries and partners to develop original games and integrate Web3 elements into more mainstream products. Original games include The Sandbox, Crazy Defense Heroes and Phantom Galaxies and more. Animoca Brands has also released various tokens for its GameFi ecosystems, such as REVV token, SAND token and SPORT token. IP licensing/brand collaboration is a key strategic tenant for Animoca (i.e. sports teams, celebrities, games, cartoon characters, etc.). On the investing side, Animoca Brands aggressively grew its portfolio and has +340 investments (select 2021 – 2022 investments listed in Appendix). Animoca Brands plays a crucial role in supporting the growth of Web3 game developers and the enrichment of the open metaverse.

Animoca Brands was listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) from 2015 to 2020. After the completion of the reverse takeover of Animoca Brands by Black Fire Minerals in January 2015, Black Fire Minerals became Animoca Brands Corporation and relisted on the ASX as AB1. Black Fire Minerals was founded in 2006 and historically operated as a minerals exploration company in Western Australia, Nevada, USA and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In June 2014, Black Fire Minerals entered into a share purchase agreement to acquire 100% of the issued shares in Animoca Brands Corporation incorporated in the British Virgin Islands (1 billion ordinary shares and 600 million performance shares of Black Fire at A$0.005). Black Fire Minerals saw more value creation opportunities in shifting to the mobile games industry than remaining as a junior mineral explorer.
