The timeline has been postponed once again to “a few months after June” with no tentative date, one Ethereum core developer said in April

When that happens, the consensus mechanism on Ethereum will shift from the current proof-of-work (PoW) to proof-of-stake (PoS), after which existing miners will no longer be able to mine newly minted ether using either application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) chips or graphic processing units (GPUs).
