With over five billion files uploaded on its platform, IPFS, or InterPlanetary File System, is one of a few decentralized protocols launched in the crypto era that appears to provide utility for its users.

The protocol, founded by Juan Benet in 2014, is a file sharing and transferring protocol like the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), one of the most successful and dominant transfer protocols for the modern internet. However, unlike HTTP, which follows a client-server model, IPFS is a network of distributed nodes that can both serve and request data.
