Tezos is an open-source smart contract platform for assets and decentralized applications. The origins of Tezos dates back to 2014 when the founders of Tezos, Arthur and Kathleen Breitman, published two papers, a position paper and a white paper under the pseudonym LM Goodman. The papers outlined the motivations for their new blockchain network, the technical components, and how it set out to resolve governance issues underpinning current blockchain architecture.

In July 2017, under the Swiss-based Tezos Foundation, the foundation raised roughly $232 million worth of bitcoin and ethereum through an initial coin offering (ICO), which at the time had made it the largest fundraiser through an ICO.
