Mapping out the blockchain ecosystem in Africa

Approximately 15.8% of the worlds population, or 1.2 billion people, live on the continent of Africa. Many of the promises heralded by blockchain technology have been around financial inclusion, so naturally the continent has been chosen by many companies and projects in the sector.

The World Bank has noted that about 66% of sub-Saharan Africans remain unbanked, although ownership of mobile devices in Africa continues to increase year over year.
