Over the past two quarters, the success of non-fungible tokens has brought a resurgence of interest towards the blockchain gaming sector. During the first half of the year, the NFTs/Gaming vertical has received nearly $1.2 billion in private investment. Two blockchain gaming companies, including Animoca Brands and Forte, raised at $1 billion valuations during Q2. Within the NFTs/Gaming vertical, there are now three crypto unicorns, including Animoca, Dapper Labs, and Forte. Additionally, Sorare, the Paris-based fantasy soccer platform, is rumored to be completing a raise that would have it join the current bucket of blockchain gaming unicorns.

The gaming sector’s participants can be summarized as gaming studios, the games themselves, eSports/betting platforms, trading collectibles, marketplaces for the trading of in-game assets, and virtual reality worlds often called metaverses.
