Blockchain gaming has become a very popular topic of discussion due to the wide variety of game-play modes, real-use cases, and economic models that contribute to the overall gaming ecosystem. While some blockchain games have a high barrier of entry due to the need to purchase costly NFT items, there are many that are play-to-earn and free-to-play. The play-to-earn crypto gaming model typically entails players earning tokens, which may be converted into fiat or traded for other assets by completing in-game quests, battles, journeys, or missions.

The integration and leveraging of NFT technology into blockchain games has enabled game developers and studios to offer in-game upgrades, assets and unlock liquidity in more efficient and lucrative ways. The blockchain multiverses that are being built are bringing in significant revenue. For example, Sky Mavis, the creator of Axie Infinity, reported $1.2 billion in annual revenue, making it financially competitive with popular traditional, non-blockchain games.
