In the months following China’s crackdown on the Bitcoin mining industry, institutions elsewhere in the world – particularly the ones in North America – have not only expanded their investments over the latest generation of equipment but initiated a massive build-out for additional power capacity to energize their future miners.

We previously analyzed the purchasing contracts from 28 public and private Bitcoin mining companies, who collectively expect to receive over 1 million units of the newest generation of miners by the end of 2022. These miners, on average, have a power efficiency of about 35 watts per terahash second (W/THs). That means it would take roughly another 3,500 megawatts (MW) or 3.5 gigawatts (GW) of juice to energize all these pending machines.
