An overview of techniques for boosting Bitcoin miner hashing power

In recent months, we observed several new developments in the Bitcoin mining industry that shared the same keyword: liquid cooling. For instance, Riot Blockchain is testing a customized immersion cooling to submerge 46,000 ASIC miners during Q1. Bitmain quietly started the sales of new water cooling models in its AntMiner S19 product line called the S19 Pro Hydro. Canaan also rolled out an immersion cooling version of its Avalon 1246 miner. 

Liquid cooling itself isn’t a new technology and has been applied at a large scale for IDCs (e.g., Alibaba’s immersion-cooled data centers in Hangzhou). In the world of Bitcoin mining, such applications have been around since 2013 but were kept at a smaller scale. But now we start to see the interest rejuvenated for profit maximization when Bitcoin’s price is high enough for mining companies to be less concerned about the energy cost.
